The number of Maltese who went abroad in December grew by 5.1 percent over December 2006 to reach 25,038, the National Statistics Office said. Of these, 20,525 travelled to European Union destinations.

Between January and December 2007, the number of Maltese going abroad reached 279,531, an increase of 8.7 percent over the previous year. Eighty-five percent went to EU destinations. Just under half of Maltese travellers were aged between 25 and 44.
