Malta, Luxembourg agree to boost relations

Malta and Luxembourg will be looking into ways of improving relations between them.

Foreign Minister Michael Frendo yesterday met Jean Asselborn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Luxembourg.

Dr Frendo told The Times that both sides discussed collaboration between the two countries, especially since Luxembourg is a founder member of the European Union. He said this experience is very important for Malta, a relatively new member state. The two also discussed other issues such as the Mediterranean Union, the situation in Kosovo, the EU-Arab League conference held earlier this week and the EU's common foreign policy after the ratification of the Reform Treaty.

Mr Asselborn said that although Luxembourg and Malta were far from each other, the two countries were close at heart. He spoke about the effect of the EU-Arab League conference and praised Dr Frendo for his efforts to call such an event, the first time ever. He said Malta is the ideal country to act as a bridge between the EU and the Arab League states.
