AD councillor leaves the Green party

Alternattiva Demokratika's local councillor for Swieqi, René Rossignaud, has resigned from both the party and the local council.

In a letter to AD chairman Harry Vassallo, Mr Rossignaud said he decided to step down because the party had changed its strategy in this electoral campaign and was attacking the Nationalist Party and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi without understanding the consequences of such a policy. He said he was not prepared to cooperate with AD in poaching votes from the PN without taking the consequences into consideration.

"I am not willing to work for a party and be responsible for allowing another party to get into government which will again divide us from Europe," he said.
