No help again
There is nothing worse than feeling your life's passion is about to fall to pieces. This is the state that many young Maltese and older Maltese people are in. The BMX track in Pembroke is in disarray due to the empty promises of Minister George Pullicino.
There is nothing worse than feeling your life's passion is about to fall to pieces. This is the state that many young Maltese and older Maltese people are in. The BMX track in Pembroke is in disarray due to the empty promises of Minister George Pullicino. This place has existed for two decades and has been a part of many Maltese youths' upbringing.
It is a place to meet new people and learn how to interact with people in a different environment. It is also a venue for "school sports" on Saturdays which is offered by the Malta Sports Council. It is also used to teach young Maltese people how to ride their bicycles on the road with its "traffic school" and is recognised by the ADT for doing so. It is the only place which truly caters for BMX.
Minister George Pullicino has on many occasions promised to help BMX on the island but there has been no real commitment. I have gone to the BMX track weekend after weekend and observed that no real changes have taken place. The only changes which have been brought about have been by those who are volunteers working to improve their track. The ages of these volunteers vary between 11 and 17.
These children are doing the jobs that the Minister promised would be done for them. These children are working when they should be riding their bikes. They are deprived of such things because of the lack of justice when treating people as equals. The skate community have received around Lm100,000. The BMX track is much more humble as it only requires soil, some other materials such as metal and wood, and a bobcat to move the soil. However the government is withholding such assistance. Why has the Malta Sports Council not attempted to help BMX in Malta like it helps other sports?
Furthermore, why hasn't Minister Pullicino treated BMX riders like he said he would? The minister is on the verge of taking away something which is in the heart of many teenagers.
Doing so would not be a smart thing to do if every vote counts now and in the future. They will not easily forget what the minister has done to them.
