The Malta Table Football Sport Association has just held its second event of the year at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun.

There were 16 players taking part in the competition all vying for places in higher categories as the final rankings will establish the format of the new national championship.

Players were split in four groups with the top two qualifying for the knock-out phase of the tournament.

In the preliminary round, Hansel Mallia and Kenneth Attard were eliminated after defeats at the hands of Mark Gauci and Massimo Cremona respectively.

At the quarter-finals stage, Charles Aquilina and Derek Conti lost to Gauci and Samuel Bartolo while Joe Mifsud beat Cremona and Ilai Zammit ousted Adrian Bonnici.

Gauci went on to win his semi-final against Zammit 5-2 and Mifsud booked the other place in the final after a close 2-1 victory over Bartolo.

In the final, Mifsud was twice in the lead but in the end had to bow out to Gauci who clinched the honours with a 3-2 victory.
