Sprinter Dwain Chambers was named yesterday in Britain's squad for next month's world indoor championships after UK Athletics said they had no choice but to pick him after winning Sunday's trials.
UK Athletics wanted to prevent Chambers running because he has not been regularly drugs tested by them since 2006 after attempting to forge a career in the NFL last year.
The governing body said Chambers met the selection criteria but his participation in Valencia deprived young athletes who were committed "to ongoing participation in a drug-free sport."
The sprinter tested positive for the designer steroid THG in 2003 and was banned for two years.
