Policemen on the beat at St Paul’s Bay turned firefighters this morning when they noticed smoke coming out of a souvenir shop in Triq it-Trunciera.

The police said the officers initially noticed broken glass from the shop’s door and then noticed the smoke inside. They used a fire extinguisher to try to put out the flames, but they had spread to most of the shop and the fire brigade was called.

Magistrate J. Apap Bologna is heading an inquiry.

Police investigations are under way.
