Obituary

BORG. On Febuary 10, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH (known as Joe il-Morin), proprietor of Morin Coaches Company Ltd, of Qormi, aged 67, widower of Maria Borg née Mizzi, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Josephine and her husband Mark, Jennifer and her husband Edwin, Charlotte and her husband Robert, his grandchildren Elena, Daniel, Maria, Kristina, Rachel and Jean-Luc, his sisters-in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 1.45 p.m. for St Sebastian parish church, Qormi, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.
May God grant him eternal rest.

CARUANA. On February 9, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANTONIA, of Marsa, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Irene, Joe, Lolly, Doris, Lucian, Maria, Therese, their spouses, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. R.I.P.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said at the Holy Trinity parish church, Marsa tomorrow, Tuesday, at 8.30 a.m. No flowers by request but donations to the Dar tal-Providenza , Siġġiewi will be greatly appreciated.

MARICH. On February 9, ANNE née Ferrante, aged 89, passed away peacefully at Mater Dei Hospital comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Gloria and Benny Forace, Angela and Joseph Manduca, her beloved grandchildren Christian and Francesca, her brothers Henri and his wife Minka, Frank and Lino, her sister Evelyn Spiteri Maempel, her sister-in-law Yvonne, her nephews and nieces, her devoted carer Gina, other relatives and friends.

National book prize 2007

The National Book Council is inviting the submission of literary works for the National Book Prize 2007.

The award is designed to give due recognition and grants to Maltese authors of outstanding literary works, in Maltese and other languages, first published in book form last year.

A prize of €600, a trophy and a certificate will be awarded to the first classified and a prize of €470 and a certificate to the second classified in each category.

The various categories are for fiction (novels and short stories); prose (non-fiction in Maltese); poetry; drama; works of research; and books for children and adolescents.

Participants must submit an application for every book entered for the competition on a prescribed form that together with a booklet of regulations can be collected from the secretary, National Book Council c/o Central Public Library, Floriana, tel. 2122 2654.

Participants are to deliver four copies of the book to: The National Book Award, Attn Joseph Debattista, Central Public Library, Floriana.

The four copies submitted, which are not returnable, should reach the secretary at the Central Public Library by not later than noon of May 10.

Art lecture

Din l-Art Ħelwa will hold a lecture on the main revolutionary concepts of 20th century art and how they affected recent contemporary art in Malta. The lecture will be delivered by Anton Grech at the Judge Caruana Curran Hall at 133 Melita Street, Valletta on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Mr Grech will describe the changes brought about by photography towards the mid-19th century and the role of artists like Cézanne, Matisse and Picasso. He will also discuss the effects World War II had on the New Art and new developments in America.

Mr Grech is a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta and teaches at the Malta School of Art.

Those intending to participate are to be seated by 5.45 p.m. Admission is free.

Association for paramedics

The Association of Paramedics and Health Professionals has just been set up and is open to all who work in this sector.

The first general meeting will be held at the Gonzi Hall of the Catholic Institute, Floriana tomorrow at 7.15 p.m.

All health care professionals and paramedics are urged to attend.

Missing vehicle

A Blue Chevrolet Kalos, registration number JAK 891, was reported missing on Monday from the airport car park. If seen, one should contact the police or its owner on 9947 5090.

For the fourth consecutive year, Eastern Breeze has been voted one of Malta's top restaurants in the survey carried out by the Definitive(ly) Good Guide.

Lenten reflections

Fr Marcello Ghirlando will be guiding the Lenten reflections for the University of Malta's staff between today and Friday. Reflections will be held from 12.30 to 1 p.m. at Dar Manwel Magri, the Jesuit Residence, outside the old gate of the university.
