We agree with the views of the National Commission Persons with Disability (KNPD) and the Maltese Council Of Disabled Persons (MCODP) in showing their concern over the proposal made by the Malta Labour Party to convert part of St Luke's Hospital to house people with a disability who do not have the necessary support from members of their family.

We welcome the explanatory statement made by the Malta Labour Party's shadow minister for Social Solidarity, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, to the effect that the modification will take the form of residential units. Furthermore, she mentioned that these small units will be like the other residential houses that we already have in the community.

So we ask, why does it have to be at St Luke's? Is it so impossible to find other locations in the community where to open these houses?
