NBA - Bryant, Gasol team up for 66 points
Kobe Bryant scored 36 points and recent acquisition Pau Gasol added 30 to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 117-113 road victory over the Orlando Magic yesterday. Bryant produced four points from free-throws in the final minute, the first two giving the Lakers the lead.
Gasol said playing for the Lakers was like a dream come true.
"It feels great," the former Memphis player said.
"It is an amazing opportunity for me and I want to make the most out of it. I always dreamed I would be in a situation like I am today."
Horse racing - Fallon loses appeal
Six-times champion jockey Kieren Fallon's appeal against an 18-month doping ban has been rejected, a French horse racing official said. Fallon, 42, had lodged an appeal after being suspended from racing for 18 months last month following a positive test for a banned substance.
The jockey still has the possibility of lodging a further appeal before a superior commission.
Cycling - Rasmussen faces two-year ban
Danish rider Michael Rasmussen, expelled from last year's Tour de France, faces a two-year ban after the International Cycling Union (UCI) called for disciplinary proceedings to be brought against him.
Rasmussen was sacked by his Rabobank team four days from the end of the Tour while he was leading the race after it emerged he had lied about his whereabouts in training which is an offence under doping regulations.
