The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) of the Sant’ Antnin Waste treatment plant was inaugurated today by Environemnt Minister George Pullicino. The facility is the place where manual sorting of dry recyclable waste recovered from Bring-in Sites and Civic Amenity Sites will be done before sent for recycling.

Mr Pullicino said this event was a milestone for Malta’s waste policy because this part of the plant was crucial to increasing the amount of recyclable waste.

“Next week we will be announcing details of how the weekly, door-to-door separated packaging waste collection scheme from all localities in Malta and Gozo will work. After intensive negotiations with constituted bodies and the Association of Local Councils, we are now in the stage of launching the scheme from April 1,” said Mr Pullicino.

The waste treatment plant is open for viewing today and tomorrow between 10 am and 4 pm.
