Gozo was in the focus of the political parties today, with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi meeting delegations from the Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Tourism Association and the MLP's deputy leaders going on a walkabout in Victoria.

During the meeting with the Gozo Business Chamber, new president Joe Grech said the chamber welcomed the PN proposals for a widening of the income tax bands. He also praised the way how business licence fees in Gozo had been reduced.

Paul Scicluna, president of the Gozo Tourism Association, said 2007 had been a record year for tourism in Gozo.

Dr Gonzi spoke on the PN's plans for Gozo and on its record, pointing to capital investment in Gozo's roads, schools and facilities, and better marketing including special events like Notte Gozitana. This evening Dr Gonzi spoke at a PN activity in Xaghra.

In the morning Dr Gonzi went on a walkabout in the Qormi commercial centre.

Labour leader Alfred Sant explained the MLP electoral programme in an interview on the party radio.
