I refer to the letter Informing Consumers About Power Cuts (Robert Coenen, February 2).
Electricity interruptions fall in three categories: Faults in the system, planned maintenance (as in the correspondent's case) or shut down due to safety considerations.
Enemalta Corporation acknowledges that power interruptions are an inconvenience and, therefore, does its utmost to minimise impact. In fact, planned power interruptions are notified to the media (newspapers, Melita information channel and Enemalta's website) at least two days in advance.
Consumers also have the opportunity to register for a free service to be notified by SMS before a planned power interruption is scheduled. Online registration is available at www.enemalta.com.mt. In the case of a major unplanned electricity interruption, Enemalta Corporation informs all media and we assure readers that Enemalta engineers are immediately dispatched to address any fault.
The SMS service is also in the process of being upgraded as part of the government's e-service initiative and details will be publicised soon which will also include a service for unplanned power interruptions.
Enemalta Corporation regrets any inconvenience caused and invites consumers to call its Customer Care on freephone number 8007 2224 in similar cases.
