A fire which apparently broke out in a skip in St Christopher Street, Valletta at about 8 p.m. yesterday spread to two cars parked nearby, the police said.

One of the cars, a Fiat Uno, was destroyed by the flames while a BMW was damaged at the rear. The mobile squad from the Valletta district who went on site and attempted to douse the blaze with fire extinguishers found the intensity of the flames to be too big.

The fire was put out by personnel from the Civil Protection Department.

Duty Magistrate Michael Mallia has appointed experts to assist in an inquiry.
