The lobby group against the proposed Marsascala waste recycling plant yesterday asked the leaders of the political parties contesting the election to commit themselves, if elected, to publish the Mepa report about the approval of the Sant'Antnin plant and call an inquiry into how the plant's redevelopment was approved.
The request was made in a letter copied to the press.
The document they want published, which contains the findings of an investigation launched by Mepa's audit officer, has never seen the light of day after the planning watchdog objected to its publication with the Ombudsman on grounds that its findings may prejudice the pending appeal proceedings. It is now clear, the committee said, that the process through which Mepa confirmed the site in Marsascala as the best place where to rebuild the recycling plant was riddled with irregularities.
"For this reason," committee secretary Joe Said wrote, "my committee is asking you to consider whether you should give your party's full backing to the publication of this report."
