On Saturday, February 2, the Ramblers Association of Malta held their annual general meeting. As in the previous meeting, the committee delivered their speeches in English, ignoring our national language, Maltese.
During the meeting, as a member I made the point that since one of the aims of the association is to protect wirt artna, the national heritage, we should all speak in our beloved national language, and be proud of it. Concerning our friends the foreign members, whom we respect in all regards, notes in English could be handed out.
I would like to draw the attention of those concerned that one can be mature by giving one's own language the proper value it deserves, while being able to practise other languages.
May I also remind those concerned, that in joining the European Union, Maltese achieved high respectability from all member states. Maltese is an established language in the European Parliament.
So why can't we be proud enough to use our own language in our own home, Malta?
