Publicity on the media led us to Manikata on Sunday, January 27. Parking was provided nearby with an efficient shuttle service while on arrival various activities, involving all the family, were organised continuously from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The atmosphere was relaxed and the families that turned up enjoyed the open-air, car-free experience.

But mostly the marvellous scenery looked great on such a splendid day.

Thanks to the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the environment, not only was it an educational experience but it led to the handing over of Majjistral Park to knowledgeable NGOs who will ensure that this sizable part of Malta's natural landscape will not be lost.

Is it then too late for the government to rethink the large amount of land to be given over for development as "pockets"?

After all Ramla l-Ħamra and Majjistral were saved.
