'Freedom' and harassment

Stephen Agius Muscat (Freedom To Thrive, February 4) seems to be another one of the frustrated - and dare I say it - envious blue-eyed boys who cannot stomach my fortnightly column in The Times.

I am in tourism, and have been for the past 16 years thanks to the then Nationalist Administration: Because of the national reconciliation that was promised in 1987, I had no option but to resign from my management post at Xandir Malta (today PBS). The uncalled for harassment I was subjected to then, with trumped-up charges being levelled against me which could have led to dismissal, left me no option. Is this the freedom restored by the PN that Mr Agius Muscat is referring to?

Please be assured that my tour-operating company is the success it is today because of the sheer hard work put in by my management and staff and not with any help from any Administration.

Is Mr Agius Muscat suggesting that my business should have been shackled?

Perhaps he is not aware that my company is helping the local tourism economy prosper by bringing to Malta about 100,000 tourists annually on luxury cruise ships.

I am sure he is also unaware that together with Viset and other stakeholders that include the Ministry of Tourism, we are having talks with the cruise line company I represent on how to increase these numbers.
