William Chetcuti showed clear signs that he is on his way back to form after winning an international Double Trap shoot at Bidnija yesterday.

The competition, part of the Malta Shooting Sport Federation's calendar of 100th anniversary celebrations, saw the participation of 25 shooters from Malta, Italy and Great Britain.

Chetcuti had consistent scores of 48, 49 and 46 (143) in the competition stage before smashing 48 clays in the barrage for an overall total of 191. Second place went to Steve Scott, 183, and Tim Kneale was third with 182.

Chetcuti was the only Maltese shooter in the top six of the competition.

Great Britain won the team event with Richard Faulds, Kneale and Scott in the side. They had a tally of 405 clays, 38 better off than Chetcuti's Malta (367) who were second ahead of Italy, 362.

The other two Maltese shooters in the team event were Derek Bonanno and Layton Xuereb.

The next international event at Bidnija, for Skeet shooters, will be held tomorrow.
