Music by Bach, Mozart, Cassar and Scriabin will feature in a piano recital that Alexie Galea will be giving on Wednesday at the music room of St James Cavalier, in Valletta.

Mr Galea was born in 1979 and studied violin and piano at an early age. From 1993 to 1996 he attended the Purcell music school in London where he studied violin with Yfrah Neaman and piano with Patsy Toh and Anthea Cohen. He spent a year at the Royal College of Music in London specialising in violin after which he graduated from the University of Oxford in music , where he played as a soloist with orchestra and as chamber music player.

Mr Galea was active not only as a pianist but also as a violinist .He played with a number of orchestras as a soloist and gave violin recitals with pianists Andrea Preger and Svetlana Bodiul, among others.

While in Oxford, where he studied piano with Raymond Fischer, he gave recitals at the Holywell Music Room.

In 2008, after completing the Moscow State conservatoire, he graduated from the class of Viktor Merzhanov as a pianist and in the class of Alexander Rudin as a chamber performer. In Moscow, Mr Galea performed in a number of concerts and festivals, including Primavera Classica and at the Rachmaninov museum in Tambov.

During his six years in Moscow, Mr Galea was generously supported by the Janatha Stubbs Foundation.

The recital on Wednesday starts at 7.30 p.m. and entrance is free of charge.
