I would heartily agree with the recommendation by my esteemed friend Frans Sammut (January 30), in response to an appeal by Tony Steward for an English translation of Dun Karm's poems, of the book by A.J. Arberry and Prospero Grech (1961). Mr Arberry translates several of Dun Karm's poems including the superlative Il-Jien u lil hinn minnu while Mr Grech provides the excellent introduction.

Incidentally, Mr Arberry's version of Il-Jien (Beyond Self) closely resembles one much earlier (1943) by May Butcher with the title The Ego and Beyond which appeared in Volume 3 of The Sundial - The Journal of the Royal University of Malta Literary Society.

Miss Butcher, a local British resident, was a regular contributor to the journal which was inspired and sponsored by Prof. Owen J. Fogarty.
