Valletta Waterfront rewards student

Dining at the Valletta Water- front's Korean Restaurant has won Marlene Ellul, 22, of Gudja, €2,000 and an additional €500 to donate to her favourite charity, the Sisters of Mother Teresa of Cospicua.

Ms Ellul, who is reading for a Master's in English Linguistics, participated in a 'Dine, Shop & Win' competition, organised by the Valletta Waterfront.

"I had just arrived from Canada after spending four months in Toronto where I was conducting research at York University for my dissertation," Ms Ellul said. "I went out for dinner at the Valletta Waterfront to celebrate.

"The Sisters of Mother Theresa visit the sick in hospital and prisoners, and are a means of support to the community in the area. They distribute food and any other provisions to families in need, and help children with their homework after school. In summer, they organise camps for the children which last around five weeks. All this work is done for free. Indeed, their cheerfulness, their simplicity as well as their charisma often serve as an inspiring example to youth helpers who help them to take care of the children."
