Valletta was transformed into a colourful land of make-believe as fairies, princes and action heroes made their way through the streets. Carnival lovers made the most of the beautiful weather, descending on the capital city in droves. Even babies were dressed up in different costumes, while toddlers balanced precariously on unsteady legs but proud to be someone else for a day. Several men were seen dressed up as women and teenage girls spiced up their school uniform with colourful hair and mismatched socks. The children's carnival was held in Freedom Square yesterday morning, while dancing competitions, including a spectacular grand defilé, was held in the afternoon. But while Carnival brings cheer to some, it provides hours of misery for several residents who are forced to spend hours listening to the heavy beats of music, more suitable for rave party enthusiasts.
