A barge that was converted into a heavy transport vessel and christened Fjord yesterday carried out a test in Grand Harbour when it took in water to submerge except for the mooring towers at the bow and the accommodation quarters at the stern. The conversion of the barge, previously named the Fairmount Fjord, was carried out at Malta Shipyards. The job included propulsion, increasing its length and installing accommodation facilities. The Fjord submerges so that it can carry other vessels as well as rigs. It will be at dock 6 today. The local agents are Medsea Ltd. Pictures show the Fjord submerging at Bighi.
