Two of Malta's emerging swimmers, Mark Sammut (IASIS) and Daniel Galea (Sliema ASC), broke age-group records in the 'C' category when competing in the Time-Trials at Tal-Qroqq last weekend.
Sammut eclipsed his own time of 31.47 seconds set last year in the 50 metres backstroke. His new mark is 31.33 seconds, quite a good improvement considering that the distance is very short.
By the same criteria, Galea's time of 33.68 seconds in the 50 metres breaststroke was another fine breakthrough. This mark erased the previous one of 33.95 seconds set by John Buttigieg in 1996.
The Time-Trials, the second of the year, featured Ryan Gambin, the Maltese-Australian, who is currently residing in Malta.
Gambin swam the 50 and 100-metres butterfly events, registering remarkable times which exceeded the best ever credited to Maltese swimmers.
