Why Vodka? The theme, for a Maltese song, is ill adapted and in that sense verges on the ridiculous.
The choice of the song again shows that we have not yet arrived at the right selection formula that has the right mix of expert opinion and popular view. The public choice is often based on emotion and clearly the percentage allocated to it should be on the low side - certainly not more than 30 per cent. By these comments I do not wish in any way to diminish the merits of the singer who has all that is required with regard to talent and personality to successfully represent Malta in the Eurovision song contest. But the song will fail her (and us).

Well, in my view whether Vodka fails or not depends on the motivations behind voters across Europe. Just because the voting was 'emotional' locally, doesn't mean the same would happen in other countries. After all, persistently awarding 12 points to neighbouring countries doesn't exactly sound like having a taste for good music.
The bottom line is that the contest has lost much of its credibility, and it is high time that we start considering whether it is worth as much credit as most of us afford it.
That said, I wish Morena the best of luck, as it is her that will fly our flag this time around - whether we all like it or not!
