A 20-year-old man was yesterday accused of assaulting and slightly injuring a police officer in Ħamrun on Monday.

Johnathan Bugeja, of Ħamrun, pleaded not guilty to assaulting and slightly injuring Police Constable Angelo Rowe, threatening him and disobeying his orders. He was also accused of breaching the public peace and swearing in public.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera granted the accused bail against a deposit of €300 and a personal guarantee of €200.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.

Lawyer Veronique Dalli appeared for the accused.
