A 49-year-old Gozitan man was yesterday accused of defiling an 11-year-old girl in Rabat earlier this month.

Mario Pisani, 49, of Munxar, pleaded not guilty to defiling the minor, whose name cannot be published by court order.

Mr Pisani was also accused of holding the girl against her will and offending public morals. Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera turned down a request for bail and he was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Louise Calleja prosecuted.
