Timeshare scam
Robert Wood (January 29) claimed that he will not return to Malta after falling victim to a timeshare scam.
Without going into the legalities of the contract that Mr Wood signed, I cannot understand what the victim expects to gain from his repetitive rhetoric. As far as I know this is a legal matter which should be tackled by his lawyers and in no way should Malta be made to suffer for his infantile actions.
No one forced Mr Wood to sign something he did not want and if anything he should have read the whole contract before agreeing to the terms. His failure to do so does not justify his rants on our island.
I have been scammed in London's Oxford Street, in a legal retail outlet fully licensed by the British authorities, but I still return to the UK for pleasure and business as I accepted my naivety to be the main cause of my loss. If anything, most of the timeshare touts that patrol our island are from the UK.
My advice to Mr Wood and to all other tourists who have been bitten is to return to Malta and if approached by timeshare agents all they have to do is to ignore them. After all there can't be fire without fuel.

We lost a timeshare in Malta when the hotel was closed on health grounds by the authorities. Although we lost money we now come to Malta twice as often as we choose where to stay and when to come. We bought the timeshare because we love Malta, we don't blame them. We know ignore the touts.

Unfortunately, these scam artists are becoming more sophisticated, no matter where you are. My question to Mr. Woods is, "if you fell for a swindle on the internet, would you not surf the web anymore?" You can't blame Malta for your unfortunate decision - no one held a gun to your head, even though these touts are very slick. Assign responsibilty where it's due.
