Steve Coppell is uncertain whether he will do any more deals this month. The window closes at midnight tomorrow and the Reading manager has already signed Jimmy Kebe and Marek Matejovsky this month.

Coppell, who also showed interest in Malta's Udo Nwoko, is not ruling out the possibility of any more deals, but says it is probably unlikely.

He said: "I don't foresee any more deals, but you can never tell. As you get close to the deadline, things happen.

"We're not in a dialogue to move anyone, either in or out. But, as always, things can change quickly."

Celtic get Samaras on loan

Celtic have signed Greek striker Georgios Samaras on loan from English Premier League Manchester City until the end of the season, the Scottish champions said.

Celtic said they had the option of making the deal permanent for the 22-year-old, who has won 12 international caps.

Samaras scored eight goals in 55 league appearances for Manchester City.

Juve wrap up Sissoko signing

Juventus have signed Liverpool's Mohamed Sissoko for €11 million. The combative Mali midfielder jetted to Italy at the weekend for a medical before heading back to the African Nations Cup in Ghana.

Sissoko, who went to Anfield in 2005 but fell out of favour following the arrival of Javier Mascherano, has signed a five-year contract with the Turin club, a statement said.

The tough tackler played under Juve boss Claudio Ranieri at Valencia in 2004. He replaces Argentine Sergio Almiron, who was sent on loan to Monaco after an ineffective first few months at Juve having signed from Empoli.

City's Love bid rejected

CSKA Moscow have shunned a bid from Manchester City for Vagner Love's services. Love was targeted by City for a January move to Eastlands but Sven-Goran Eriksson has had little success in trying to land the striker as the Russians insist they want him to stay.

Love said: "At the end of last year, there was an offer from Manchester City, but the transfer did not take place because CSKA president Yevgeny Giner did not feel the offer was right for me.

"I love Russia, I have excellent relations here and I love the club. I am satisfied with everything here."

Rijkaard still hopeful

Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is hoping that the pressure of heading the Primera Liga for so long will eventually take its toll on rivals Real Madrid and allow his side to eat into their nine-point lead.

"Right now you have to accept that Real Madrid are the best team in the league," Rijkaard was quoted as saying in the Spanish media.

"They are taking all the points, they almost never slip up and have beaten all their main rivals.

"But having to prove that you are the best isn't easy and that could put them under pressure."

McAllister new Leeds manager

Former Scotland international Gary McAllister was appointed manager of Leeds United yesterday.

McAllister, 43, has joined the club initially to the end of the season and replaces Dennis Wise who has joined Newcastle United as executive director for football. McAllister, an accomplished midfielder, was part of Leeds United's 1992 title-winning side and made almost 300 appearances during a six-year spell at the club.

Ono set to join Bochum

Japan midfielder Shinji Ono is poised to complete his move from Urawa Reds to Bundesliga side Bochum, subject to a medical examination.

Ono, once Japan's brightest light, was a member of three Japan World Cup squads and helped Dutch club Feyenoord win the UEFA Cup in 2002.

The 28-year-old returned to the Asian club champions in 2006 but has failed to claim a regular place in the side because of ankle trouble.

Ball to blame for goal glut

The balls at the African Nations Cup are flattering strikers and making goalkeepers look stupid, according to South Africa goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs. Until Monday, the Nations Cup had produced 58 goals in 18 games, many of them spectacular efforts from long distance.

But Josephs believes the glut is down to the unpredictable, multi-coloured ball rather than the skills of the forwards.

"It's terrible, absolutely terrible," he said.

"It's not goalkeeper-friendly at all... it isn't that the guys have been scoring good goals, it's the ball which has been making the guys look good."

Gudjohnsen won't join Bolton

Eidur Gudjohnsen will not be leaving Barcelona to join Bolton on loan.

Bolton manager Gary Megson revealed this week he was working on a bid to bring the 29-year-old Iceland player back to the Reebok Stadium.

But his father Arnor Gudjohnsen said: "Eidur isn't going anywhere.

"Both he and his family are settled in Barcelona. Eidur is hoping to win a trophy with the club this season and will think about things in the summer."
