Support for MUT

Żminijietna - Voice of the Left has expressed its solidarity with the Malta Union of Teachers in the latter's industrial dispute with the government over working conditions in the educational sector.

Żminijietna highlighted the lack of employment rights of various categories of workers in educational employment. It said it supported the MUT over its claims regarding casual workers such as supply teachers, supply learning support assistants and supply kindergarten assistants who do not benefit from full-time employment rights, even if they have been in employment for over four years. Under EU regulations, they should benefit from such rights, the group argued.

A proper educational reform, it said, should provide full employment rights to the various categories of workers in the educational sector.
