Eleven solar panels have been installed on the roof of the Bank of Valletta branch in Marsascala, the first of the bank's branches to start using solar energy for its electricity needs. BOV said it was investing in renewable energy to promote alternative energy sources and enhance the environment.
George Cardona Schranz, the bank's head of facilities management, and Karl Farrugia, from Solar Solutions Limited, which installed the photovoltaic system, visited the branch to observe the system in operation.
Solar Solutions director Karl Azzopardi said the system will generate between 3,500 and 3,800 kilowatt hours (units of electricity) per year.
The system generates direct current, which is then passed through an inverter to produce alternating current that is utilised within the branch.
