A man was yesterday fined €580 (Lm249) after pleading guilty to assaulting two police officers at St Julian's police station early yesterday morning.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard James Briffa, 30, from Zurrieq, plead guilty to assaulting a police sergeant and a police constable at the police station, soon after he was involved in a fight with another man who made passes at his girlfriend in Paceville. They suffered slight injuries. Police Inspector Carlo Ellul prosecuted while lawyer Chris Cardona appeared for the accused.
