It was with great dismay that I and many others heard that Fr Michael Agius was to be moved from the sanctuary of St Paul Shipwrecked in St Paul's Bay, to another community. I come from St Paul's Bay and used to frequent this small church, so I know quite well how it used to look at that time. It was practically falling to pieces and frequented only by a few people, until 11 years ago when Fr Michael took over.

It was certainly no easy task to restore it but during his time there he seemed to perform miracles. It is so beautiful now and always full whenever there is a Mass service or some other service. With the help of generous benefactors, Fr Michael has managed to transform this sanctuary completely. The church was always full, and the congregation spilled outside, where he put a big screen plus seating facilities, so that everyone could follow the Mass.

It is difficult for someone like me to understand why Fr Micheal had to leave this sanctuary where he was doing so much good. Maybe he was needed somewhere else to do the good work he has done here, who knows?

I take this opportunity to thank Fr Michael for the 11 years he spent working very hard to make the sanctuary the way it looks now. I would like to show my great appreciation and gratitude to him for all he has done not only for the church but also for the people, as a spiritual person who always gave use beautiful sermons and good advice. May God bless him and help him keep up his good work. We miss Fr Michael and shall never forget him.
