I sympathise with Ms C.M. Borg (The Sunday Times, January 13). Is it not time that the Government began to govern? It allows motor insurance companies to make the rules. Motorists in collisions are told not to move their vehicles until a warden appears.
This causes huge delays and traffic jams, which affects people not involved in the crash. Motorists should exchange details and move their vehicles as soon as possible. Most crashes are caused by drivers who ignore the rules of the road or roundabouts, or who ignore stop signs. Those who cause the crash should be fined €100, be banned for at least three months, and forced to retake the driving test, as they obviously do not know the rules of the road.
These actions would certainly send a message to reckless drivers and would reduce accidents. The insurance companies would pay out for less claims and some idiots would be removed from the roads.
