The launch of a website was one of the initiatives taken by the Gozo NGOs Association during the past year, its annual general meeting was told.

Association president Antoine Vassallo referred to the major developments achieved by the association during the past year, including the launch of the Website www.gozo-ngos.org.

Mr Vassallo invited NGOs to send information for inclusion in the Website. He announced a new scheme for individual NGOs to place information on a particular site at a nominal fee.

In the coming days full details and conditions of the Leonardo Da Vinci Project - which includes visits to foreign NGOs - will be distributed to all NGOs.

Mr Vassallo said that contact has been made with the Commissioner for the Voluntary Sector and that an information session will be held about the new legislation.

In her speech, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono emphasised the government's interest in this sector. After thanking all those who give of their time in a wide range of activities towards society's development, she distributed cheques to over 100 NGOs as part of the ministry's annual financial incentives scheme.

Mr Vassallo said he would like to see more participation by member NGOs in the running of the association. "Only in this way can the voluntary sector succeed in pulling its weight towards a stronger society," he concluded.
