The tension at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre in Ta' Qali is mounting as the contestants of the Go Malta Song for Europe Festival try to get to grips with some calming tactics before tonight's show.

The six contestants interpreting the eight songs have to woo both the judges who hold 20 per cent of the vote and the public, which is responsible for choosing the winner through 80 per cent televoting.

Two singers who passed through to the final phase - Morena and Claudia Faniello - are hoping that the fact that they have two songs won't work against them and that people will choose their best song so as not to split their votes.

Maltasong chairman Robert Abela said that, in agreement with UKAM, the Union for Composers and Authors, the results and placing of the 17 songs that competed in the semi-finals will be released tomorrow.

Tonight's show, which starts at 8.30, will include a performance by star guest Natalie Gauci, the winner of Australian Idol 2007, who will also be teaming up with Chiara for a duet.

The National Good Causes Fund, timesofmalta.com and the Maltasong board worked together to bring the 26-year-old singer to Malta.

Former festival winners Mike Spiteri and Olivia Lewis will also be belting out their songs to keep the crowd entertained.

Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech yesterday met Ms Gauci at Ta' Qali where the final preparations for tonight's show were under way.

Tonight's eight songs will be performed in the following order: Give Me A Chance, singer Eleanor Cassar, composer Paul Giordimaina, author Fleur Balzan; Caravaggio, singer Claudia Faniello, Ray Agius, Godwin Sant; Street Car Of Desire, singer Petra Zammit, Elton Zarb, Rita Pace; Casanova, singer Morena, Philip Vella, Gerard James Borg; Go, singer Klinsmann, Dominic Galea, Claudette Pace; Sunrise, singer Claudia Faniello, composed and penned by Ray Agius; Love Is Just The Way, sung, composed and penned by Rosman Pace; and Vodka, singer Morena, Philip Vella, Gerard James Borg.

The show, hosted by Ruth Casingena, Chiara and John Demanuele, will be aired live on TVM.
