6PM, one of Malta’s leading IT companies, have announced it will be opening a branch in Gozo. This announcement was made during a visit by IT Minister Austin Gatt, to the company offices in Naxxar.

Ivan Bartolo, the company’s managing director, said the branch would provide an employment opportunity for those in Gozo who wished to follow a career in IT but who did do not wish to commute to Malta on a daily basis.

Dr Gatt observed that this decision followed the decision by HSBC to set up a service centre in Gozo. The government, he said, would be updating the networking infrastructurein Gozo.

Mr Bartolo said that all R&D as well as the development of a new product to compliment 6PM’s prototyping suite of tools will be moved to the new Gozo branch.

6PM was set up in 1996 and employs 70 people with over 30 contractors used on an ongoing basis, taking the 6pm headcount to over 100 people in Malta and the UK. It will initially employ 10 people in Gozo.
