A 30-year old Libyan has pleaded guilty to trying to import 24,000 steroid pills hidden in 24 chick-pea cans.

The pills, having a value of 7,000 euros, were discovered by Customs officers when the Libyan flew in from Tripoli on Monday.

The Libyan was arraigned before Magistrate Edwina Grima who handed down a six-month jail term suspended for one year.

The Customs Department in a statement said the Libyan was searched in the Green Channel and had tried to run away when the first can was opened, but he was caught by policemen.
