Parts of Fort St Angelo to fall under Heritage Malta

Heritage Malta is holding talks with the Cottonera Waterfront Consortium so that parts of Fort St Angelo which are currently managed by the consortium can be presented to the public in a way that explains its history and defensive strategy.

An agreement is expected to be signed in the coming days between the consortium and Heritage Malta for the operation of this historic site.

Next Sunday Heritage Malta will be opening many parts of the fort that have been closed to visitors for many years. In view of safety considerations, only guided tours will be allowed. The tours will include visits to areas used by the Knights of St John which are normally not open to the public.

The tours will be held at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in English and at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Maltese. Visitors are to meet in front of the Malta Maritime Museum 15 minutes before the start of each tour. Tickets can be bought on the day from either the Inquisitor’s Palace of the Malta Maritime Museum for €7 (Lm 3.01) for adults, and €5 (Lm 2.15) for students and holders of Karta Anzjan. Children under 16 enter free of charge but they will still need to obtain a free ticket from the Malta Maritime Museum or the Inquisitor’s Palace.

The admission ticket is also valid for the Malta Maritime Museum and the Inquisitor’s Palace where between 2.30 and 4.30 pm visitors will be able to follow a historical re-enactment highlighting the life of sailors on the galleys of the Order. The musical group Gukulari Ensemble will be performing 18^th century music at the Inquisitor’s Palace.
