Shame on them!
Since last summer road works have been going on in Triq il-Kannizzata in Balzan.
I had the pleasure of hearing jackhammers opening the roads and inhaling the dust that came along with it. I am sure this dust must have exceeded the 38 times international threshold mentioned recently in this paper, since one could practically eat the dust.
My offices are situated right along Triq il-Kannizzata and every day I have seen residents cleaning their front doors in a desperate but useless attempt to keep the dust out.
But obviously, if works are done there will always be some inconvenience.
At last the road was ready; last Tuesday week, a colleague and I were admiring the newly laid tarmac, the freshly painted zebra crossings and yellow lines to prevent us from parking illegally.
Then two days later, arriving at my office in the morning, I was astonished to see workmen digging up the road again over a stretch of 100-150 metres. Upon asking what was happening, I was informed that they had, forgotten to lay the drainpipes before building the road. Can anyone believe this? What a waste of taxpayers' money and disrespect for the health and well-being of those who live and work in Triq il-Kannizzata.
How can those responsible not be ashamed of themselves?
