The negative campaign adopted by the MLP and its media since the introduction of the euro is misleading and shallow to say the least.

Every day the Labour Party media aided by the GWU daily newspaper repeats ad nauseam that prices have increased due to the euro. They also allege that small shop owners are rounding prices up and in doing so give the impression that these people are thieves.

On the contrary, surveys and statistics published by the GRTU, the National Statistics Office and the European Commission indicate otherwise. During the celebrations which marked Malta's entry into the euro area European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet spoke highly of the changeover and said that "not only did Malta perform exceptionally well in its convergence process to the euro area, but also the cash changeover was exemplary so far".

Yet, Labour insists on playing a different tune altogether. Nothing new I hear you say. You're right; they are wrong, very wrong, yet again.
