May I add to Dave Bones' (January 12) and Frank Prescott's (January 16) experience of airlines' return fares to Malta.
At the turn of the year I accessed the Easyjet website and was quoted return flights for two at an all inclusive £191 departing at crack of dawn from second preference Gatwick. A few days later I checked the Air Malta site and I snapped up "all frills" flights at £158 departing mid-morning from first preference Heathrow. The next day I thought to check Easyjet again and the same £191 fare had shot up to £725.
The fact is that many airlines now have a variable fares structure which is driven by demand and supply, and one must shop around. By the way, I never bother to check Ryanair given Michael O'Leary's well known cavalier attitude to walking freight.
I am gratified that Air Malta's new found competitiveness is enabling me to "fly the flag" (as I have always done).
