Venus Williams was forced to come from behind in both sets before beating Frenchwoman Camille Pin 7-5 6-4 in the Australian Open second round this morning.

Pin served for the first set at 5-4 and led the second 4-2 but the American eighth seed struck back each time to clinch victory in an hour and 33 minutes. Pin took Maria Sharapova to three sets in the first round at Melbourne Park last year and
Williams paid tribute to her battling qualities.

"She plays a really feisty game, brings a lot of balls back, and a lot of balls low," Williams told reporters. "And she was definitely on her best tennis today so she played well.".

Williams next faces Indian Sania Mirza.

"She's a good player," Williams said. "She tries to play aggressive. Looks like she enjoys herself out there."
