Lisbon Treaty ratification process starts this week

The Prime Minister will move a Parliamentary resolution for the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty this week, Justice Minister Tonio Borg told the House Business Committee this evening.

The treaty will replace the EU constitution, which had been ratified by Malta but was never adopted by the EU.

Dr Borg said the new treaty will be discussed in the European and Foreign Affairs Committee of the House next week and then moved before the whole House for debate.

He said the government hoped the ratification process would be completed this month.
