A number of Gozitans called The Times yesterday to say that last weekend's continuous rainfall had badly affected Gozitan roads.

They said that besides the potholes, there were a good number of walls that collapsed including a partly new wall halfway between Victoria and Gharb. This wall blocked the road, newly built with EU funds, for some time. A person involved in the building industry said the wall must have lacked proper foundations.

However, a spokesman for the Gozo Ministry said when contacted that this wall was not built recently.

The spokesman said the ministry immediately sent out its workers to repair the damage caused by the weather. This was confirmed by one of the callers who said that Gozo Ministry workers were seen clearing the roads of rubble and debris from as early as 6 a.m. on Sunday.
