In an effort to improve students' awareness about the hazards of AIDS, HIV and other sexually-transmitted diseases, the Malta Pharmaceutical Students' Association (MPSA) organised the annual World AIDS Day campaign last month in collaboration with Glaxosmithkline (GSK) and the Health Promotion Department.

As part of the day's events an information stand was put up at Student's House, information packs were distributed to the students, and Henry C. Abela, a GSK medical representative, conducted a presentation regarding Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and cervical cancer.

In a separate activity, the MPSA organised its annual social and educational weekend live-in during which various workshops were organised on the theme 'Changes and Innovations in Pharmacy', supported by the pharmaceutical industry. A large number of students from the five years of the pharmacy course took part in the weekend, which is one of the association's biggest and most popular events, as it serves to introduce the first year students to all other pharmacy students as well as a reunion with pharmacy graduates.
