Officials from Air Malta and the Airline Pilots' Association have started a series of marathon talks aimed at breaking a deadlock over a new collective agreement.

A spokesman for the union told The Times/timesofmalta.com that a meeting scheduled for last Monday could not be held, but the two sides have been meeting since 9 this morning and making progress.

The union had warned it might resort to strike action if no agreement was reached on the pilots' salary, allowances and roster.
