A count-down projected by laser on the historic walls of Fort St Angelo will usher Malta into the eurozone on January 1.
Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech and NECC chairman Alan Camilleri told a press conference this morning that activities to mark the adoption of the euro will be focused on Grand Harbour, the same venue where Malta celebrated its entry into the EU.
The activities will stretch from the fishmarket to Valletta Waterfront and will include a rock concert, a folklore area, a dance party , performances by a 25-piece orchestra and a concert of classical music.
Shortly after midnight Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and the Governor of the Central Bank, Michael Bonello, will withdraw the first euro notes from an ATM and there will be a fireworks display.
