AN wants to relax hunting laws

Alleanza Nazzjoni, the new political party, said today that should it achieve parliamentary representation, it would to relax a number of hunting regulations.

It said it would seek derogations from the EU to allow limited hunting in Spring; limited rapping of seven species of songbirds in Autumn and Winter, and the use of higher velocity boats for hunting at sea, as long as shotguns were rendered safe when speed was higher that 5km per hour. The hunting season at sea would be extended to the end of February and hunting at sea would be allowed on Sundays and holidays in the afternoons.

The party said it would stop the moratorium on new trapping licences as long as an established quota of trapping was established to ensure sustainability.

It also promised representation to the hunters’ federation in talks with the EU.

It said that given Malta’s small ize, talks should be held on the hunting distances from residential areas, as long as public safety was ensured.

The party warned that any hunters convicted of breaking hunting laws would be barred from hunting, permanently.
